Performance Review of the Old Town Vapor 10 Recreational Kayak

For kayak fishing newbies, the Vapor 10 is a great recreational kayak which is well worth every dollar you’ll spend on it. Since it has a lightweight design, the Vapor 10 is great at tracking and its maneuverability is exceptional for its class.

Paddling long distances with the Vapor 10 is very comfortable too because it comes with an adjustable seat, adjustable foot straps and a cushion for your thighs and rear. The Vapor 10 is also very stable out in the water, making it safe for anglers to rest their feet on the top of the kayak, and we all know that some space to recline makes a huge difference in the overall experience.

One of the things that also stood out for us with regards to the Vapor 10 Recreational kayak’s performance is the fact that it has great maneuverability. There’s also the fact that this kayak glides over the water with minimal effort thanks to the precision-engineered, streamline hull.

The Old Town Vapor 10 in Retrospect

If you asked us if there was anything about the Old Town Vapor 10 Recreational Kayak we didn’t like, we’d be lying if we point blank said NO. The truth is that no man-made product is flawless. Our biggest issue with the Vapor 10 is its price, which hovers in the $500 zone. Compared to other kayaks in its class, the Vapor 10 is very basic, yet it’s priced at a very advanced price range.

There’s also the fact that the Vapor 10 is a solo kayak, which may increase comfort inside the kayak since you’ll have more space, but it takes away the ability for an angler to stand up and cast his lines in the water without the fear of keeling over.

The last thing worth mentioning here is the fact that the Vapor 10 doesn’t really want to be paddled head on into heavy winds since it has a lightweight chassis. Strong wind from the front will probably cause the kayak to track poorly and it’ll also make you lose a lot of speed. We get that it’s a recreational kayak, so it cannot be criticized for wind resistance, but it is surely something to keep in mind before making that final purchase call.

Old Town Vapor 10 Pros and Cons

The Good:

  • Very spacious
  • Comfortable for angling purposes
  • Very lightweight and versatile
  • Very stable
  • Easy to transport

The Bad:

  • Expensive when compared with competitors
  • Tracking and keeping speed is an issue with strong winds

Who Should Buy the Old Town Vapor 10 Kayak?

If you’re an angler who would like to get into the kayak fishing game, the Vapor 10 might be a great idea. It does what it’s supposed to do, and it lives up to claims made by the manufacturer. It’s also a great kayak for paddlers looking to invest in something that will not falter when it comes to stability and convenient functionality throughout the design.

There are folks who will not like the Vapor 10 due to the fact that it’s not customizable and let’s not forget about its unreasonably high price. If you’re a paddler who needs extra functionality, this might not be what you’re looking for. There are a lot of alternatives out there which come priced a lot more reasonably and offer similar functionality.

Final Thoughts

Newbie paddlers and kayaking fishermen looking for efficiency, comfort, and space may find that the Old Town Vapor 10 is their ideal fit for a recreational angling kayak.

It was made to meet all of the needs that solo kayak anglers may have, and if comfort and performance are high up in your books of ‘must-have’ when it comes to recreational kayaks, this product may well be worth your investment. We reckon the Old Town Vapor 10 is a great kayak and it lived up to the expectations we had set for it before taking it out on the water.

Remember: What works for one paddler might end up nightmarish for another. Go ahead and test it out for yourself before you take the plunge and close that sales deal!
